The presentation of coding - qualitative research design

 1.What Is Coding?

Coding is the process of organizing and sorting your data. Coding is a way to abstract, label, and organize your data. Through Coding, it's easier for us to build a bridge from our collections such as interviews and records, field observation, to our interpretation.   Which means, what we have to do before coding is to create a storyline, a storyline of our own research. We have to know where we start and where to go. And

2. STEPS

These are the basic steps, the process to do our research. 複述

3. Code your data

Review and scan all your material/data in a systematic way, and catch the concepts, the ideals, the themes which you think are crucial to your research. And then categorize them.

4. Creating codes

Before we do coding, we have to create our code list, or code bank, a list consist of codes that we concern. There are two kinds of codes, pre-set codes as known as priori codes and open codes as emergent codes. Let's talk about pre-set codes first. Before beginning data collection and the coding, we create a list of pre-set codes, which derive from 複述

5. Creating codes (Cons)

The number of codes in a pre-set list can be arbitrary, there can be around 10 codes or even up to 40-50. However, don't create too many codes. It will just mess you up. Besides we will have additional codes after this. And it would be better to define the meanings of your codes clearly.

6. Creating codes

Emergent codes. During reading and analyzing data, there would be some concepts or ideals you didn't think about, or you find interests in. What we gonna do? just put them into your codes. Create new codes
